"service engine soon"

Hey good folks,
I've got a 2000 National Seabreeze with the F53 Ford V10. It has 35,000 miles on it. The "service engine soon" light came on and stayed on. I don't have an owner's manual so what exactly does this mean?

    No way to tell without checking codes. You could stop at Orielly's and they will read it for free.
    However, if you just passed 60,000 miles (or some other main interval) then it could be to remind you to have the 02 sensor replaced.
