Shake down cruise

Traded our 2003 Tradewinds for a 2013 Newmar Canyon Star and took it to the Chula Vista RV Resort. It performed very well although the noisy climb up the Tehachapi range after doing in with a CAT engine for 16 years but I guess I'll get used to Ford Triton 10 again. We love the coach itself. My wife and I don't have to fight over the bathroom. When I saw the first motor home with a bath and a half I said " Who needs two bath rooms in a motor home" but I have to admit it's pretty handy.

Has anyone else had the experience of going from diesel to gas and how long did it take you to ge used to the difference?
  • i switched a few months ago
couple of weeks and i was totally used to the change
  • Seems like the only difference between 1.5 and 2 baths would be taking a shower at the same time unless you just claim one and keep all your stuff in it.
  • You now need to change your 'Signature' line to add your new one. Hope you get used to it and happy camping!
  • Not the experience of going from diesel to gas, but yes on the experience of going to a 1-1/2 bath and it is wonderful!

Yes, I need to figure out how to do that. I tried and wasn't successful so I'll try again. Maybe I can invite one of my 8 year old grandkids over to do it for me. :B
  • OFF topic side note:

35 yrs ago, my then 5yr old son went home to his mother (my ex) and told her how he loads and runs a game program from floppy disc on daddys commodore computer, he knew the right key strokes

today he is an IT specialist after serving in the Navy
  • We went from DP to Gas and back to DP. We had the gas unit for 8 years though and it did it's job well. Didn't take any time to get used to a gasser again, per se. But, we just decided a DP was more to our liking, especially since we were going back to a bigger unit. Our Newmar gasser had a well insulated doghouse which kept heat and noise to an acceptable level..much more so than the Fleetwood gassers we had previously that had virtually no insulation under the doghouse. That was one thing that made that gasser easier to adjust to.

About the only thing I guess I never got used to was having the generator in the back again and trying to sleep with it running when we had to have the air on while traveling in hot weather and boondocking in parking lots overnight. I like the generator up front, and the diesels tend to be quieter (I think) anyway.

The generator in our Canyon Star is extremely quiet, I keep asking my wife " is it on"?
