If could be the door interlock switch gone bad. Actually, there may be more than one, but the bottom one may be more prone to failure. If you are technically inclined, you can check these switches with an ohmeter. Switch contacts should be closed when door is closed.
You also could have a failed magnetron power supply, or bad magnetron. Harder for a DIYer to diagnose and repair, but if you are into this sort of thing, it's doable. Parts are available online. If you take it to a shop, it may cost you the better part of just buying a new one.
BTW, is it a microwave/convection oven? If so, soes it work on convection?
