We frequent the Shenandoah Area every fall season to catch the tree colors. Have never stayed at the COUNTRY WAVE RV Resort but have driven thru it to look around. Following the Shenandoah River through the valley is always a special drive for us.
We are setup for camping off the power grid and always stay at LOFT MOUNTAIN inside the SKYLINE DRIVE but of course it does not have hookups. It does have fresh water available to be toted from the bath room buildings.
Our best place to stay is the SHERANDO LAKE at Lyndhurst VA (Exit 96 on US64 near Waynesboro) which is located at the southern end of the Shenandoah Natl Park and where the BLUE RIDGE Parkway starts up. SHERANDO LAKE has both hookup and non-hookup sites. Easy access to the Blue Ridge parkway which will feed the SKYLINE DRIVE parkway. A word of caution however SHERANDO LAKE is very popular and getting reservations might be difficult for you.
By the way the best places we found for really good fall foliage is West of Harrisonburg up along the Virginia and West Virginia wooded state line. Definitely worth the effort to check it out... The lower elevations between Harrisonburg and just below the State line is really worth the drive for us.
All of this might be too far SOUTH for your planning.
