- s1214ExplorerI have a slightly different approach. I found a rubber sink mat about 18x20. I keep it in the camper and bring it with me to the shower. My slides stay out on the floor and I only stand on my mat barefoot. No sand in the shower. When done I step off my mat right back into my slides. Mat is hung on the side of the camper in the sun to dry.

First, check your body's ph balance. Once that is corrected you don't have to worry about fungus or athlete's foot. I don't think there is much to worry about in a public shower. If it's dirty it's not disease, it's dirt.
What? Body's "PH balance"? I've never heard that one before.
I do like the last sentence -- I may use that as a signature if that is okay! - Arizona_KidExplorerI know swimming pools, and spas. Kids, and some adults think pools/spas are their personal toilet.
I'll use the showers, but wouldn't set foot, or feet, in a public pool, or spa.
Take a look at the Park, or campground, the pool is probably getting similar care. - hhdExplorerI wear Crocs and try to keep out of contact with all surfaces. Been camping for many years and never encountered disease ... yet. Have looked at a few showers and decided not to take the risk and walked away.
- rockhillmanorExplorerDieing from a disease is not the main issue with public facilities.
It's athletes foot and Hep B. And THAT IS VERY prevalent in public showers, bathrooms.
Being prudent to 'avoid' contact is just good camping habits. :C - lots2seeinmyrvExplorer

Interesting to read how many have stated they never use campground showers.
Does that mean no swimming at swimming pools either? Both use the same water don't they?
We use campground showers, use either flip-flops or crocks. Bring plastic clothes pins, "S" hooks, and/or cloth shopping bag to expand places to put clean clothes.
I like the "S" hook idea...some places don't have enough hooks. Thanks! - TinyoneRVExplorerWe use the GS Travel Directory and look for locations with a good rating in the middle category, restrooms and showers. A star after the rating indicates a clean facility; it may be old but its clean. It has worked for us. We've stayed at a few places with a high number and without the star and still found a good facility. Even if not as clean as one might like, the chance of contracting a disease while wearing suitable shower shoes is very unlikely.
I believe you are more likely to contract food poisoning at a restaurant than you are to get a disease from a shower. (Can't back that up; just an opinion). - BudJExplorer

Very Very good point, and bath tubs are even worse.
