shower renovaton in motor home

I own a 1999 Safari Zanzibar and need to remodel the shower to make the bathroom wheelchair accessible.

I have replaced the shower pan but now need to re-do the shower walls.

Any suggestions? Does tile work? A consideration is that the motor home will be in a freeze/thaw environment.

Is cement board behind the tile the best option?

Any help would be greatly appreciated - we want to get on the road!
  • Reather than tile I would use a swan stone product. My mind went blank on what it is called but Home Depot sold it. It is about a half inch thick and you can get it in sheets that you can cut to fit. It is then glued to the walls. I used some left over pieces in the kitchen area of our rig and it has held to the walls real well. You then caulk the edges and the joints. It isn't cheap but it will last forever and never leak like tile can.

  • Use FRP wall panels from Lowes. There is even a liquid nails for them. The should have the trim pieces and all that. You can use 3m 5900 (or whatever) glue for the joints. FRP is lightweight and will take the shifting around. Don't waste your time with traditional home type wall building.
  • When replacing the flooring in the MH and fixing the rotted floor in certain area's, I used Hardi-backer after the repair and I havent had a crack in 6-7 years of use. Obviously a shower may be a tad different but Im a fan on Hardi-backer board.
  • Forget the cement board, Use Wedi or Hardi Board, lighter and better, tile is fine, use Flexbond Thinset.
  • take a look at http://www.flextile.com/index.htm.

He sells a glue, like liq. nails. You glue the tile to the plywood.
take a look and be the judge.
Lowes and Home Depot sell shower kits that can be cu to fit any shower pan.

    Good luck
