Shower tub

Spent the day working on the tub on my 1989 Southwind. Several months ago I posted about the crack in the tub. Several JAs made comments about my weight. Some how I picture these guys looking like Norm on Cheers. The problem is age and an idiot who designed the rig. I have a crack where the outside wall and bottom come together. I removed the panel along the tub and look underneath the tub. There was a 1/2" gap between the bottom of the tub and the cheep packing foam they used to fill the gap. But, no support along the outer side of the tub, where the crack is. There they placed the heater duct tube. What Idiot would place the heater dust under the tub? And what bean counter used left over packing material to support the tub. Now I have plywood supporting the hole tub. Are all RVs made this cheaply?

    My weight? I am 225. I brake the plastic with my fingers with out trying. I would say it was for looks not use.

    The next time someone wants to know why people shower at the campgrounds when they have a nice RV, this could be a reason. Afraid to use the shower, or they have a cracked bottom.

    To be honest. This has concerned me in every RV we've owned. We did have one that leaked.

    Serously, glad you got it fixed, the stuff they make 'em out of does get brittle with age,, had that problem in my house but with the walls, not the floor. (Walls do not bear weight) got that fixed too.

    But I'm sure there is one crack when you are in your shower! ;)

    Your weight? I am, as of this AM, 307 pounds and do not have any wise cracks in my shower :).

    Serously, glad you got it fixed, the stuff they make 'em out of does get brittle with age,, had that problem in my house but with the walls, not the floor. (Walls do not bear weight) got that fixed too.

    Yes, my next step is to fiberglass to hole tub and repaint it. The tub looks like it is made of plastic only and it is so thin about twice the thickness of a 2 liter bottle. The tub is 26 years old, brittle and yellowed. I plan on using woven glass on the sides and glass mat for the floor. I have to redo the wood frame too. It was not placed in properly too. I will have to do that too.

    Yes Quality is one thing but Pride in Workmanship is another. I just had to fix a crack by my shower drain, not bad but when checking underneath by the drain noticed the thin spot in the chopped glass they used. I can see that they added support by 1 inch plywood but its in the transition from the support to the drain. Since I use to build custom ski boats was able to buy some mat and resin and add extra layers to beef up the area. Also to repair the crank on the inside Lowes has enable epoxy that blended right in.

    I know about cheep junk they try to sell. Wife and I stopped by CW and looked at some trailers they were selling. You could't open or closed the doors. We stopped looking at that point,

    We passed on a number of TT's due to crappy materials before settling on the one we bought
