Side view camera upgrade

My 2014 Itasca Spirit 25B came with a rear view camera and I would like to have side view cameras added. What would this entail? Is it major? I would have it professionally done. What kind of shop would do this best?
  • I'll chime in also, I have the side cameras on my Greyhawk. As far as I'm concerned they are worthless. As a matter of fact I'm trying to figure out how to disconnect them so the "screen" doesn't flip to the camera and beep every time I put on the turn signal.

Understood. With a Class C, we can get into a situation where all the mirror "sees" is the front corner of the "house." Trying to get "square" doesn't always work. To help, the camera would have to be on the House, not the Cab. I wonder what its angle of view is. In other words, can it cover the blind spot?

Remember, you'll need to confirm that your monitor allows multiple inputs. That or add a separate monitor for the side view camera(s). Then there's the matter of switching. The big Class A's are set up to switch to side camera when the turn signal's on. There might be a manual way too.
  • You can pick up a couple of side cameras from Jensen (Jensen RV Direct Side Cameras). I ordered a right side view camera and will install it soon with a wireless remote monitor.

Like others who commented, I prefer my mirrors and don't need it for driving. I plan on using the IR camera for a little video monitoring setup.
  • We have difficulty approaching an intersection at an angle other than 90 degrees. On one side the wider house wall blocks the view. A rounded mirror add-on helps a bit. Turning the vehicle to 90 degrees isn't always possible. I would like to have a pair of cameras just for this problem.
  • I have always wondered about the usefulness of having a driver's side camera that would require the driver to look to his right when wanting to see what's on his left (...because the video screen is in the center of the dashboard). Seems more logical for the passenger side camera, but bottom line for me is that I prefer to trust my mirrors.
  • I have had MH with and without cameras. The rear ones are very handy. The side ones are OK but I rely on my side mirrors more. That said I am a retired truck driver.
