Sleep Number Bed?

We are planning to replace the OEM (nine years old) queen mattress in our Diplomat. We think that a Sleep Number is the best choice, and appreciate any comments about the mattress.

This is the info on Sleep Number. Which is best for a motorhome?

Prices Thickness firmness* Surface Comfort / Foam Layer(s)**
C2 $700 queen 8" firm polyprop- ylene / rayon blend 1" regular foam
COMMENT: 1) Differences in firmness setting clearly noticeable due to thin comfort layer. 2) Bottoming out is possible especially on low setting. 3) Comes with less advanced remote than other models. 4) Not well suited for side sleep due to high firmness. 5) Some consumers buy this model and then add their own comfort layer / topper. This often saves money because a main difference between this model and more expensive ones is comfort layer thickness.
C3 $1200 queen 9" mostly firm polyprop- ylene / rayon blend 1.5" regular foam
COMMENT: 1) The c3 (like c4) has a newer design than that of other Sleep Number models as no foam borders are used and the air chamber(s) extends to bed's edges. This design likely reduces or eliminates the middle problem as well as any need to rotate foam borders to maintain support. 2) Bottoming out is possible especially on low setting.
C4 $1600 queen medium- firm polyprop- ylene / rayon blend 2" regular foam
COMMENT: The c4 (like c3) has a newer design than that of other Sleep Number models as no foam borders are used and the air chamber(s) extends to bed's edges. This design likely reduces or eliminates the middle problem as well as any need to rotate foam borders to maintain support.
P5 $2000 queen 11" medium- firm rayon / polyester 2" regular foam
COMMENT: Popular model.
P6 $2500 queen 12" medium rayon / polyester with Outlast 3" regular foam
COMMENT: P6 has one inch more regular foam and a somewhat better cover then p5, yet it is considerably more expensive.
M6 $2800 queen medium- firm quilted knit rayon/ polyester 3" memory foam (4 lbs/ft) 1" regular foam
COMMENT: New model. Competes with Tempur-Pedic Choice Supreme.
M7 $3200 queen 12" medium- firm quilted knit rayon/ polyester 3" gel memory foam (4 lbs/ft) 3" regular foam
COMMENT: Competes with Tempur-Pedic Choice Supreme.
I8 $3200 queen 13" medium soft Outlast , woven polyester/ rayon 2" fiber fill 3" regular foam
COMMENT: Comes with one remote.
I10 $4400 queen 15" mostly soft Outlast , knit polyester/ rayon 2" fiber fill 3" memory foam (4 lbs/ft) 2" regular foam
COMMENT: 1) Comes with two remotes. 2) Best suited for those seeking a tall profile and softness.
  • have slept on a sleep number for over 10 years, have a queen in the RV since Nov 13 and Love it...
  • They are good for RV's. We have enjoyed the one in our bounder. It's more comfortable than our home sealy.
  • Replaced my OE mattress with Sleep Number RV Premier Queen QM 32063. Purchased from the company store for $1259.99. Has one wireless remote that controls both air chambers. No noticeable center sag with both sides within 10 labs of pressure. Both wife and I really like it. Gives an excellent nights rest. It does have a fairly thick top layer of foam that helps cradle your body. My coach was prepped for it so the install was about 15 minutes with no drilling of the holes for airlines and power cords.
  • Hello Crespro,

Our motorhome came with a Sleep Number bed with two wands (king size bed). After the first year the wands started going wonky. Sleep Number headquarters replaced the wands and motor under warranty.

The new replacement lasted about another year only with the wands not showing the numbers but the bed would pump up. In the third year, half the bed would go flat during the night (not my side) LOL!

Anyway, near St. Louis we took the piece-of-junk Sleep Number bed and threw it in the dumpster. We drove down to a bed store and bought a King Size Beauty Rest pillow top mattress and love it!

I will never have another 'motorized' bed, just something else to break. We have friends that have bought them for their houses and they have been OK (they are new at this point). But, I'll never have another.

    Good luck and safe travels,
    MM.
  • Our motorhome came with the queen C2 mattress. After sleeping on it for a year, we purchased the P6 King for our home. I can't really tell much difference in them. Both give a good nights sleep. I weigh 155 and never bottom out even when set on 10 lbs of pressure.
