sleeping with generator on
Not with out:
1. Gen-Turi Gen exhaust pipes on the gen

2. a window open - Kayteg1Explorer IINow we will have above members coming back and saying that 500 deaths for whole USA in neglectable risk.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIIHere's a article...states 500 die/year. One unnecessary death is too many. One RV parked by itself in the boonies is so much safer than a whole parking lot of RVs running their generator. Ugh!
https://nascarcampgroundnetwork.com/blog/generate-your-life-rv-generator-upkeep/ - Jayco-noslideExplorerI don't think I would and never have. It's usually not an issue for us because most parks don't allow them after 8 PM or so. Right or wrong, I guess I would worry about the exhaust or overheating. I might run it and the AC for a half hour or so on a really hot night with me awake.
- smlrangerExplorerWe have also run our genset at night many times. My DW uses O2 during sleep and, if we are staying overnight in a Sam's or Walmart lot, we keep the generator running for her concentrator and for AC if needed. Our generator is up front and bedroom in back. We have two CO detectors.
- Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIYou can't stop uninformed folks from making posts about how everyone is going to die if they run their genset over night. I cannot count the times that I have run my generator over night in the last 17 years of full timing (yes, moving and not sitting) and, strangely enough, I am still here posting reality and not speculation.
- bobkatmsuExplorerWe used to go to all University of Florida football games. We would get there Friday evening and not turn the generator off until Sunday, when we headed home. There were 500 other motorhomes parked in the same parking lot with us with their generators running. We all used a genturi. This goes on, on college campus's all over the south every weekend, every year. Never had or heard of any problems.

If your rig is well maintained with a functioning Co2 detector, you should be fine. We have been sleeping with the generator running for years. No problems. They are designed to do this. The recommendation for the Genturi is concerning to me. Your generator manufacturers do not recommend using this add on device. In fact, I read a few years back in a Motorhome magazine, that these could potentially put you at greater risk of Co2 poisoning, as these expel gas above the rig where your AC's could recirculate the air into the rig. If these were safer to use, the industry would have added them years ago.
Roof top ACs do not use outside make up air - they only recirculate from within the coach.
However, I might tend to agree with you. I've never been to an event with that kind of tight parking, but I hear about them. Folks complain of aqua hot smells, generators, etc. Not sure any configuration is safe, other than staying out of the crowd. Lantley wrote:

Lets see. Have any of the posters that state to NOT run the Genset ever been to a Nascar race?? There are hundreds if not thousands of gensets running all around you(including yours) and if the exhaust could easily get inside your RV, we would read about scores of CO deaths every week at Nascar races. If you are running the Genset, odds are you are running it to run the Roof AC units. With those running you have a slight higher air pressure INSIDE the RV and you will be pushing OUT air and that will not allow CO to migrate inside. Doug
THere have been deaths at Nascar tracks caused by CO poising from generators.
The only foolproof method is with a Genturi. Without a Genturi you are taking a gamble. THe risk factor may not be great but it is for real.
OK, WHAT was the actual circumstance that caused those deaths? 20 years here in Texas at TMS and NOT ONE death or harm. I will bet as in all things, the deaths were caused by a Genset that was NOT in good repair or an RV that was NOT in good repair. I have been a RV Tech for 37 years and I will state that Deaths from Gensets are extremely rare. So rare as to not be a concern. You can always find the idiots that do something wrong and are killed or harmed by a product. Doug- Bill_SatelliteExplorer II

Foolproof protection using a Genturi? Certainly not, but it can't do any harm. It does put that hot air above your coach but when hot air cools where does that CO go? If it disperses above the coach it will dispurse just as well at ground level. It's much more likely that your neighbors genset would blow gasses your direction than your exhaust would have any effect on you at all if all your windows and vents are closed.
