Slide out storage weight?

I have a 36' gas class a. My living room slide is 12'. I was wondering how much weight can I reasonably store in the compartments under the slide without affecting the operation of the slide?

On a topic of this magnitude, I still say opinions are counterproductive and potentially worse than useless. You need facts from the manufacturers.

Absolutely. Anything else is a real risk for $$ repairs.

That is an interesting question. I read all the manuals in our MH and the weight in the slide out storage etc. was never mentioned. Our slide has the dinette and the kitchen in it and 3 big compartments under it. I had it loaded pretty heavy and didn't have any problems but I did wonder about the weight.

While at the factory I asked them about the weight limits for my "StoreMor" compartment under the slide. They said a total of 300 pounds was the limit
  • workhardplayharder makes an excellent point. Yet another variable that I hadn't considered, driving with the slideout extended. LOL
  • There are lots of factors to consider. I installed some pullout trays in a vehicle. In the fine print of the weight rating it stated the rating was cut in half if the trays were installed in a vehicle. In an RV the slide would depend if the slide was in or out and parked or traveling. Just be sure you are not fully loaded when you drive with the slide out.;)

  • This is an interesting question. There are a lot of variables to consider. We have discussed this over the years with different friends and it seems like everyone has a different opinion. For instance, is your dinette located in your 12 foot slide? And, is there storage inside the motorhome under the dinette? Canned goods have a way of adding weight without being considered. And...with 4 adults sitting at the dinette when the slide is extended.......well, you see what I mean? Our 2002 Bounder 12 foot slide has 3 compartment doors underneath outside and we were told that 100 lbs. per door was a good rule of thumb. There are also overhead storage cupboards inside the motorhome over the dinette and the couch that will add weight to the slide-out as well. As I said, a lot of variables to consider, maybe someone else out there has an opinion? I would bet there are as many opinions about this as there are different makes and models of motorhomes.
  • Best check with the manufacturer on that one. Mine is rated at 200 lbs or less.
