Sometimes it involves how the slide moves across the floor of the cabin, and in my rig the slide uses the carpet as a friction base to ease the movement of the slide. If I were to re-surface the cabin, I would have to put in new carpet anyway, or the bottom of the slide would chew up the new planking or whatever.
