sloppy Mechanics

RV mechanics worked on my 460 before I bought it.....they did not clamp the hoses in my A I R system which I blew off climbing in Nev. Every since then it blows manifold gaskets and eats plug wires every 250 mi......
why would the damaged AIR system cause this.....everything was perfect till those hoses were blown off....
any ideas......

My Rv has NEW manifolds, a new dual exhaust system and barely completed a 1200 mi trip. Melted 2 sets of ford racing wires, and after an inspection today discovered it wrinkled , swelled and almost busted my new walker mufflers.....now they are trash.....they just couldn't take 100 degree driving and the awesome heat generated by the 460 under load. Iam waiting for my new headers and am switching to a straight thru type mufflers.....

With continued exhaust manifold problems, warping, melting wires etc I would suspect other problems like improper ignition timing advance. Make sure this is checked as I found this to be a problem on more than a few vehicles when I worked in the shop. Yes, many were in the days of mechanical distributor systems but computer controled systems can screw up too. If you haven't already I would have this checked out by a mechanic who knows what he is doing. An engine running late will turn red hot everything in the entire exhaust system. My thoughts.
  • Yes Paul you are right....as I do my troubleshooting Ill check that out.....the ICM on 95 /460 must be the BLACK one not the grey one which will do what your talking about....because the ign will be running behind. early 460 - 90s grey, 90s on black...
