My RV is due for it's smog check (the first one for me since owning the RV) and I'm wondering where everyone goes for the smog check? For a little background, my RV is a 1997 with the 460. I'm located in Southern California. Most gas stations that I would typically go to don't have the space for the RV. I'm also assuming that the RV does not need to go on the dyno roller and is only tested at idle and reving the engine? Is that correct? Does anyone have any recommendations for a shop in Southern California (Orange County area)? Anything you do to prepare the RV for the check? Mine has had a tune up and runs well. My RV did not come from the factory with a catalytic converter, so I'm hoping they know about that. It does have a sticker in the engine compartment.Thanks again for any suggestions/recommendations.

Wouldn't the DMV know? In MD, MH's are exempt thank goodness.

When I lived in CA I had the same problem. I found the large smog stations saw me coming in the MH. Jacked the price up. Might be worth traveling to a more rural area eastward where they are doing the larger trucks.

I use a place called "Auto Smog Service" in Escondido, CA to Smog mine. They do not place it on rollers to complete the check and it costs $77. I think I found it by calling everyone I could find close by on the internet. A quick check brought up these guy who advertise RV smog checks. I'm afraid the prices here are high. I would call around and maybe drive a bit further out for a better deal. Driving a good distance right before a smog test can be very helpful...I am told! Good luck!

What's interesting, when we were in San Diego we had to renew our tags and I was told by the DMV that they don't test diesel MH's in CA. Here in Denver we pay $90 and a yearly check is required on our 02 DP and we don't have anywhere near the smog problems that California has! I don't know what the gasser's cost here, but $70 sounds reasonable.

Make sure you drive it hard for about a 20 minutes before getting it smogged, something most smog guys will tell you.

Fairway Ford RV Service in Placentia (adjacent to the Fairway Ford auto dealer) does smog checks. I use it when I also have other work to be done. In the past I have had no problem using gas station smog check shops like the Mobil station in Fountain Valley. I call before I go to make sure they are not too busy to accommodate an RV.

I called the place that does my other cars and they did it for me. The moho's don't need the dyno so as long as the hoses for the machine can reach outside shouldn't be a big deal. They do charge a little more I think in my case it was $10 or 12 more.

M&M Smog in mission Viejo, Sean is the owner and he is an rver. No going on the dyno, just hook up and test. I think it was $70.00
