I was wondering whats involved in doing a CA smog check on a MH? I know what they do for a car or truck but not sure of the process for a MH.

Same process as an auto (unless it's diesel) just gotta have the clearances for your MH.Of course, if you live in one of the areas that require a dyno smog test, then you'd have to find a dyno shop that the MH would fit.Phil

In Stockton, Ca, smog tests for cars and pickups are performed on a dyno, except my All wheel drive Honda CRV, which would require a 4 wheel Dyno, so they just do a static test. They do the same static test on my 32 ft. MH. The problem is the length of the exhaust probe being long enough to reach back to the exhaust pipe. Then the same problem with the OBD II connector cord being long enough reach the outlet in the MH. Then the operator has to have visability to the computer screen from the drivers seat to get the right RPM's for the test. This all takes room so scout it out before committing. I took a tape measure to my testing station and made some measurements and by parking across the front of the test station he was able to reach the tail pipe and still be able to see the computer screen from the drivers seat. I took the doghouse off the engine but he didn't even look at the engine but good idea to ask If they needed to take it off as they would probably charge extra if they had to remove the doghouse instead of you. So a static test is acceptable for your test on the MH. Just ask about static testing and if they have room for your size MH.

You will also have to remove the engine cover so he can look at the engine, and it's about 100.00

Rodallg, The smart move here would be to go to a certified smog tech in your area (where you live, and the vehicle is registered) and get his input on just exactly what you will need and what he will have to do. There are different enforcement rules for different areas of CA. I used to know all the areas. This web site may or may not be of any assistance to your inquiry. Smog areas Class and weight of vehicles also makes differences. Scott

What chassis do you have!?

2000 F53.

I looked a little under the dash with no luck. I need to remove the seat and pedestal for better access (also for reupholster). Didn't think it would be that hard but I guess its hiding.

I definitely live in a smog test required area.......and I've never had to have a dyno test done on a motorhome......it's just too dangerous to dyno that size of a vehicle with the amount of vehicles that are run through a station on any given day........like mentioned it is a static only test.......

Is yours a gasser or is it diesel? If diesel and over 14,000 gvwr then you don't have to smog it in CA.
