So whats in your basement. Cabinet organization ideas.

Howdy all. Thinking of making a couple of changes. Maybe making the space behind the big tool box more user friendly. And in the one with the storage drawers maybe something like I saw in a foretravel with custom really long drawers with extra extension slides. The outside entertainment centre and bar fridge is ok but wish I could put it on a really short Joey bed. The little tool box and freezer are good. The freezer is on a slide out but again wish the slides were longer. It comes out about 18 inches. If it came out another 6 inches the lid would open all the way. Hard to find these long kind of drawer slides. I would be interested in seeing pictures of others setups and hearing ideas. We are full timers so orgaization is key. Thanks in advance. Hers a few shots.

The freezer is slid out a bit here. It comes out another foot or so but would like to find longer slides if they exist.

This is where I would like to go with really deep drawers on long slides. There is some wasted space here although the space in front fits a case of two buck chuck perfectly. :)

Can you tell I'm a RIDGID and RYOBI guy?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Sorry for the late posting on this thread, but finally got some pictures of what I'm using for basic organization in the storage bays. They are the (IIRC) the 14 and 27L Sterilite containers that are offered at various stores.

    Looks highly organized. Nice

    Nice organization gents.

John, did you install the insulation on the doors or is that factory? My doors are the same style and I'm thinking that might help me if I install insulation on those.

    Thanks,
    Kaven

Hi Kaven. The insulation is just block foam and them a couple layers of reflectix. Angela and I are full timers and have been for almost 11 years in this motorhome. Because we are from the great white north there is always the chance that there will be a family or health crisis that causes us to return in the middle of the winter. This already happened once the year my dad passed away. We need to know that we can endure extended temps of minus 20 without a problem. This means a warm basement and reliable back up heat. To this end the extra insulation helps keep the basement and floors warm and the plumbing working. There are two furnaces in our rig both cross plumbed to both the main basement and wet bay. There is a temperature sensor in both the wet bay and the main basement so we always know what the temp is both. The basement has 300 watt zero clearance baseboard heater with thermostat and the wet bay has a 200 watt magnetic block heater that can get wet. Even if the furnaces fail the basement stays warm. There are 300 to 500 watt baseboard heaters through out the coach upstairs as well. We tend to use them as our main source of heat because they are dead quiet and the heat is so even. We also have sub floor heating under our hardwood floors throughout which also makes for warm floors and even heat. Here is an example of a baseboard heater. This one is in the bedroom but there is also one like it in the basement.

The one in the wetbay looks like this. It is 200 watts and attaches to the back of the big metal plate in the wet bay.

Here is 500 watt by the front entrance, typically a cool spot in motorhomes because of the windshield.

    Hope this helps.

  • My best tip for basement organization is make a map on paper and log everything you put into it and where. It will save many hours of searching for something you know you put in the basement!
Don't ask me how I know..........

    Hey John,
Nice to hear from you. Haven't for quite a while. How's the little diesel "Smarts" doing? Anyway, I don't know if you've seen any of my compartments or not and, I'm not sure what I'll show you is what you're asking for but, I thought I'd throw this at ya and you can take it for what it is and, maybe use some of it, or not. I used to outfit Fire trucks as an overtime assignment and, well, let's say some of if migrated into my private life. I'm not a fan of "boxes" so, you won't see many, (almost none at all). But, I'm not in certain living conditions that others (such as yourselves) are so, certain conditions may dictate the need for them.

Having SPACE, and controlling what goes into it and, how it's done, sure makes for easier living, when you're out on the road and, need to do a repair, or simply are in need of an item that you know you have but, can't find it. Take a look and see if there's anything that strikes your fancy. Still need to meet up with you two.

Hi Scott. Long time no here. We may be in San Diego in February. Will let you knows

I like the tool holders. Might be able to employ that on the other side of the coach. The can holders are neat too. I could use one of those behind the lid of the small tool box.

Thanks for uploading the pics. Looks very nice and organized.
  • Boy will I be busy. Have had our 2006 Winnebago Sightseer less than a week and the storage is HIGH on my list.
