Spare tire ??

We are planning a trip to Key West next year. Thinking about carrying a spare tire but have no idea on where to store it. No way to tie it down on the room. Would take up a ton of room in the basement area. Will be towing a truck with a golf cart in the bed. I know others have carried spares. Would be interested in seeing how others carried the spare. Thanks!
  • Does your RV have the same size tires front and rear? If not the opposite end to your spare size will be where you have a flat.

Be better off getting a good emergency road service plan.

Put it around a roof vent in the middle of the roof...no need to tie down but do put 12" of hose under it so you don't get water into the MH. I learned that the wet way and YES I did this for 30K miles. Wrap the tire in alum foil and plastic wrap to protect.
On my Dynasty there is a lip at the back that holds the tire but I put a strap around the tire fastened to the ladder. Doubt the strap has ever done anything over the 80K miles it road there.

This is not a bad solution, but do please secure the tire to the motorhome somehow or another. It may stay up there very well under all ordinary circumstances, but it may only takes one hellacious bump to send it flying, and I would not at all care to be the unlucky soul driving behind should that happen.

  • We always carried an unmounted spare tire in the large compartment under the bed.
Any tire place can mount a tire - getting the right size tire if needed can be the problem.
  • If the shop you call can't also sell you a tire I believe many will "up" the charge for their other services. Gross sales/service below a certain amount just doesn't make economic sense.
  • Most of us do not carry a spare tire. The weight and size are major deterrents. Also, tires can be replaced on the road. I certainly cant change my class A tire anyway. A tire repair place can get a tire for you. Happy travels.
