Split King Motorized Adjustable Bed

I'm looking for a source for a split king adjustable bed to fit on my existing platform on a Phaeton 40 QBH. My wife has a medical condition requiring her to sleep with her head elevated due to acid reflux. We recently bought a unit for our home, but in order to use one in the motorhome it must not have legs and have the motor mechanism higher in the frame. I found a source in California selling frames and beds made overseas and on their web site they show a Phaeton with one installed. I would prefer to find a supplier on the east coast so that if there is a problem with the item or supplier, it would be easier to deal with. The dealer I talked with said they had installed several and their website shows three rigs that have them installed.

Any leads would be appreciated.
  • Thanks guys, but I have found the perfect units to fit my motorhome king bed platform. It requires units that have a total width of 70" or less which is smaller than the standard king units that we recently bought for our home. But the issue is the weight. Tiffin does not advise adding that amount of weight to the slideout indicating I will probably burn up the motor. I'm going to talk to the Lippert/Schwintek folks and see what they say. To go ahead with an installation and have a motor burn up would not be a good thing to have to replace it. The motor is under the existing bed platform and would then require dismanteling the bed units before tearing into the platform.
  • Try IKEA. We bought two twin units that fit into our king bed just fine.
  • I guess I'm almost ready to give up on the split adjustable bed. I've found two sources that can supply the beds that I need in the size I need to fit on the existing king platform. I found out that the total weight of these units is as much as 350 pounds including the new mattress weights, so after finding that information out, I email Tiffin and was advised that amount of weight would probably burn up the slideout motor in a short period of time. Bummer! If I go ahead with an install and loose a motor, I'll have to remove the bed assemblies in order to change the motor. Then there is the issue that owners keep having with the Schwintek slides in general.

I had a cabinet maker ready to make two drawers to use in the existing space under the bed that is now storage so that we wouldn't lose all of that space. Not sure what I'm going to do at this point. Also, Tiffin's response to me was to not store very much under the bed.

The web site of one of the suppliers (Axel Bloom in California) shows a picture of a new looking Phaeton that had a similar install. I'm going to try to get them to provide me some contact information for that owner, but I doubt that they will do that. They also show a 5th wheel installation.

She only needs head raised, but sometimes higher than others. Ironically, I just got off the phone with a local company that can supply the adjustable bases I need. It is the same manufacturer that made the bases for the adjustable bed we own, but has no legs and has a "0" tolerance, so all of the mechanism moves above the bottom of the base. Just what I was looking for.

Mile High- InnoMax had the same base, but buying it through a local company is more appealing (and cheaper also).

    Thanks for all the suggestions.

  • Thanks guys. We just purchased a unit for our home and you are right about how expensive they are. The units I found sold on the west coast for RV's are close to $5,000 including shipping, but I'm a little reluctant to purchase one without seeing it in person. The frames do not have legs, and the motor and mechanism works above the bottom of the frame, thus permitting the base to sit right on my existing wooden platform that the mattress sits on.
  • You might try Innomax as well. I understand your dilemma. My in-laws just got the split sleep number for their home and I don't think that would work on a flat platform like the motorhome. It for sure would never work in mine because our bed already raises at the head for bringing in the slides. We can both elevate, but not one at a time.
  • Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but Sleep Number makes the adjustable, split king beds, in 76x80 or 72x84. They are quite expensive though.
  • I have no idea what you're looking for but can you build your own frame or have one built?
