Steps won't close urgent

If all else fails, would it really be that much of a problem to just drive it with the step out. I mean be careful of where you go, but it's not like it's never been done before and for a long ways down the road for some of the unknowingly.
We had ours going in and out for quite some distance on CA Rt 1 with no ill effects and until we were able to work on it.
