Stink from new(ish) RV

2013 Fleetwood Jamboree 25k
75,000 miles

After a 600 mile drive to our destination, then letting the RV sit unoccupied for 2 days, when we got in to drive back home and noticed a VERY strong rotten egg smell.

Vehicle was sitting on a slight incline, low in the rear, while parked for 2 days.

Everything seems to be working fine in the coach. The smell dissipated after 30 mins or so going down the road.

Only things I know that can make that smell are catalytic converter and RV fridge ammonia, but I can't believe on a 2 year old RV we'd be having problems with either.

Anybody have ideas ?

Thanks !

  • Odors in RV

Battery boiling due to being overcharged/low water level....happens when on AC power source and not so smart converter/charger OR bad battery cell

Fridge......ammonia leak. BUT fridge stops cooling when that happens

Sewer/septic/waste holding smells........toilet bowl not holding water
Air Admittance Valve(s) not sealing (installed on sink drain lines after 'P' traps --- inside sink cabinets)

Sulfur smell........hot water heater -----stagnant water/high iron-sulfur connect water, high bacteria in water, magnesium anode rod
  • Could also be hot water heater. Run the pump and smell the water. Check the bathroom next to see if it the toilet, then move on to other possibilities.

Could it have been "sewer gas?" It can happen easily if you were on a full hookup site and left a drain valve open, even partially.

    Interesting.

I forgot to mention that I did leave the fridge running in "gas" mode for those 2 days, so it was on battery / propane power for the whole time while parked.
