I don't happen to have that very rig, but I do have a couple diesel vehicles and they both have done that to me. The Jeep goes one step further when the fuel filter starts to clog up: it goes into limp mode which requires an engine restart to clear. And "limp mode" is very limp indeed.
read OP message only does it on hills.If the filter was "clogged" it would loose power
