Stop engine indacator

Hello looking for some help with Stop engine sign on dash.
I have a 2009 Sport coach elite with a 360 diesel turbo low mileage, no leaks or issue with lose of power or overheating, No low oil pressure, RV runs well with no signs of problems.
But stop engine light started flashing on panel with alarms and red check engine light while driving.
I have had a repair person come and added more engine oil and topped off my radiator reservoir. He indicated that a large percentage of the time it is a sensor attached to the low level of water. Once filled we started engine and ran for a short time but I still have a stop engine but no alarm sounding and check engine light still on. I am trying not to take it into a shop if at all possible.
Mobil mechanic did not have an diagnosis machine available to check for code diplay.
Question?
Is there a reset procedure to see if that was the problem? Disconnect battery as you can do with a car or a re-set button of some sort. I have no idea where to look and it’s not in my manual. Please advise
  • Can't believe those days, especially with >$20k engine the owner has no scanner and calls a gardener to troubleshoot emergency codes.
    Your vehicle computer has a message for you. Try to read it.
    And yes, stop the engine require ... stopping the engine.
    Don't be like my wife who when got a message from tire monitoring system about low air -solved the problem by pulling the plug for monitor.
    Her luck the leak was small and she did not ruin $500 tire

  • I certainly wouldn't mess around with a $10K engine. Get it checked out by a mechanic who knows what he's doing. Maybe a certified diesel shop?
    Or................. run it till it blows, then you will know exactly whats wrong.
  • Assume you are on a Freightliner chassis.

    If so, call them with your VIN: Freightliner 800 385-4357.

    They can tell you about any "work around" for a bad coolant level sensor (as long as you have verified that you do indeed have the correct level in the tank.
  • Spend the money to have it checked correctly or pay the piper later. While it might be something simple, it might just as well be something important. Get yourself a code reader or pay someone else who has one to read the codes. I would question the validity of a "Mobil mechanic did not have an diagnosis machine available to check for code diplay." ANY mobile mechanic worth his salt has the most basic working tools of his trade and a code reader is one of those BASIC tools. Heck, many of us on here are not even mechanics and we own them.
