One of my last times in a provincial park (Fitzroy Harbour), we had set up camp a few years back and another showed up across from us and set up - a tent and a bunch of stuff in the car top carrier. Emptied out the car top carrier, took it off the vehicle and put it on the ground near the tent.
Inside the carrier was their camping supplies and food. Pass the day and, after supper, we see them putting all their food back into the carrier and latch it shut... but leave it on the ground. Oh, I figure that's not going to be good.
Middle of the night, we hear some growling and quite the racket. We shine a flashlight in the area and we can see a huge raccoon, one of the biggest I have ever seen, trying to have his way with their car top carrier and getting angrier by the second that he can't get into it. Next morning we go have a chat and the raccoon didn't get in, but you should have saw the gouges it's claws put into that thing.
