Studid Power Cord Break!

Since it was assembled one time, I think it could be re-assembled. Might have to cut off a couple of inches.

I can top that! I was a late teen-ager, 18 or 19, working at a gas station one summer pumping gas and changing oil. no self-service in those days. one day I stuck the nozzle in, set the handle lock and cleaned the windows. I heard the nozzle click off and went to read the pump. told the driver how much it was. he paid me in cash (you can see what's coming, right) and before I could pull the nozzle out he pulled away. I like to think I didn't forget about the nozzle which was violently yanked from the car. I was lucky in that the nozzle stayed attached to the hose and there was no gas spill. taught me to remove the nozzle before getting the customer's money.

It looks as if the power reel is riveted together. So the cord separation is inside the compartment where the connection is made to the line going to the switch. I don't have a schematic and can't find one on the internet.

I agree with the above post, in that it was assembled once and can be done again. After removing the cover there might be some wiring left inside and should be able to tell what goes where. If uneasy doing it yourself you could always have an friend knowledgeable in electrical systems help you.

You said the cover was riveted on so you would have to drill the rivets out, then when done put new rivets or screws in. JMO

The power cord going from the reel to your transfer switch is all that an electrician, or someone familiar with electrical wiring, would need to hook up the cord. If you are not familiar with wiring it would be best to have it done by someone else, to prevent further damage to your transfer switch, inverter, or coach systems.

I didn't think of the potential residual damage. I guess I should shut everything down before reconnecting the power cord... that is IF I can get the darn thing opened.
You know the way they built things now, they make it almost impossible to fix so you would prefer ordering a new one ($600).

The shop best qualified to work on my problem says the charge would be 1 hour for taking the reel out, 1 hour for the repair work and 1 hour to put the reel back in the coach. This would be 3 hours at $115 or $345. I proposed that I remove and reinstall the reel and he do the 1 hour repair work. This would save me $230. Although I am not an electrician, I am pretty good mechanically. My question is whether I should attempt this work and what are the major obstacles?

Does the installation include hooking up the electrical wire? If it does, than go for it yourself if you feel that you are knowledgeable enough to hook up the wires correctly. If you are not, then maybe you can get him to at least hook up the electric.

I finally took the reel out and had my RV tech re-attach the wires. I then reinstalled the reel.
This 2 hour job took me 4, but lots cheaper than the new $700+ new one.
