Success with AC coil cleaning

Pulled off the covers on our 3 ac units on the roof. Utilized some plastic sheets, duct tape and towels to seal off the opening to the mh interior. Spread out tarps over our bed, etc. that were located below the interior ac openings and set up my shop vac on the roof. Cleaned all 6 coils on the roof, 2 on each unit. Sprayed with the coil cleaner from Lowes. Rinsed with a water hose and at the same time had the shop vac running to suck up the rinse water. Worked really well. Only a small amount was caught by the interior tarps. Rinse water was awful. Can't believe how dirt the coils were. Got a $20 rinseable air filter from Lowes, cut to fit my intakes and now have a much better filter system. No major decrease in air flows. Will keep closer check on our system, they will never get that dirty again. No real problems, just took some time and very careful work on top the mh.

  • Most RV A/C air filters are really poor.

In addition to dirt, humidity significantly adds to deposits on the evaporator coil. Said another way, when the coils are WET from condensation, lots sticks to them.

9 years and clean is shocking unless in very dry and clean environment.
  • Interesting I have two 15K roof ac units on my AB and its going on 9 years and the condenser and evap coils are still very clean I use about 5 months of the year;;where and how do some of you pick up all the dirt? like you must operate your ac in a dust storm or something?

I have only had to clean an evap once in 12 years

Clean the condensers 2 or 3 times a year

Now have a COleman for one of my A/C units and thanks to a "CHina Bomb" fan the other has a coleman fan in it.. WAY WAY easier to clean now

    Remove cover.

Hit with Compressed air at an angle

    Replace cover

    Done
  • Just did the same but just laid a towel on the floor in case. I used a 1 gallon pressure sprayer with water to rinse and sucked up the water with the shop vac. No water got inside.
