Sun coming in skylights

Cut a dark piece of foam rubber 2 - 3" thick to fit the hole and stuff it in there. Will also help hold the heat in if it's cold or keep the heat out if it's hot outside.

Trackrig has it correct, cheap and easy to do, also easy to pull out when you want to open the vent if yours opens.

If it's just a standard skylight and not a vent cover, you can unscrew the trim ring, then spray paint the panel with a matching paint to block some or all of the light depending on how dark you want it. You can also apply some window tint material to this panel to darken it up.

I bought a couple of these: Vent Pillow

I use reflectix on all my windows and skylight vents as required by sunrise!

Vent covers are well worth having (well, if this is an opening vent); being able to leave the vent open when it is raining or might rain is a tremendous advantage. At least the ones I've seen are generally translucent and don't block a whole lot of light. The black ones might be better at that.

The pillow or similar suggestions that others have made are more practical for blocking light.

We had a blind company come in and put a sun blocking blind in. Just pull it close.

Get up before the sun does.
