Your propane tank compartment should be open to the air (for circulation/ventilation) on the bottom. Is it?

The tank can pick up reflected infra red heat from the roadway below, but, it should NOT be too hot to touch. It is NOT normal and may be unsafe.

Did you buy it new?

That was my question too. I was thinking it was a used unit and a previous owner ran a new exhaust system too close to the tank.

Did you buy it new? If not how long has been like this since purchase. Maybe a longshot but you may want to check for recalls?

I think a trip to the muffler shop is in order but I think I would pay to have them reroute the exhaust pipe away from the tank

I’m going to go the other way on this one, I doubt a typical muffler shop would have much experience with class A motorhomes, ESPECIALLY what is ‘normal’ or not.

Take it to a Jayco dealer, they will (should?) be able to quickly see if there’s something that’s not right compared to a ‘normal’ unit.

A manufacturer as big Jayco / Thor isn’t going to produce a unit with a propane tank next to the exhaust system, and if they had, I’m pretty sure we’d of heard of it in less than 7 years ......

I take it this motorhome is on the Ford chassis and Ford does have the Y pipe on the passenger side where both exhaust comes together and that area does heat up where your propane tank is located, I would have a muffler shop put a large heat shield in this area.

I guess you are lucky to have found that.
How the heck did you notice that ?
I have never thought about taking the temperature of my propane tank . I think my DW would think I have really gone off the deep end regarding this rv. But I will check it now . :)

I've never heard of or experienced a hot propane tank. How about checking it with a temp gun to see how hot it actually is. I don't want to be an alarmist, but that sounds SERIOUS?
