Synthetic oil changes

I just read a post from last October about someone asking if they could use synthetic oil in the generator. He received 3 pages of yes and no's and the general opinion is yes you can use synthetic oil in the generator. OK great.

There were many comments stating "I use synthetic oil in every motor I have with good results." or words to that effect.

How often does one change the oil using synthetic oil? For the past 45 years I have used regular oil in everything, but everyone I talk to suggests I should change. I have 6900 miles on a 2014 Ford V10 and I would like to change at 7000-7500 miles.

Any suggestions??

Thanks in advance,

GGeorge

  • As with every engine...USE WHAT THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDS. They know more about what is needed then anyone else.

    Yes.

Before you fret over this too much, check your owner's manual or the oil fill cap for the recommended weight of oil.

If it starts with 0W or 5W then you pretty much have to use synthetic because "conventional" oil doesn't come in those weights.

Then why change now just because someone says you should?

Regular oil is better formulated than it ever was. Synthetic oil may give you that "extra edge" but does your engine really require or need it? What will you gain from the additional expense?
