T-connecotrs for dingy lights

We just replaced our 2003 Jeep Liberty with a 2012 Jeep Liberty as our dingy. Were all setup to tow except for the lights. I don't want to cut into the Jeeps wiring for fear of voiding the warranty.

I found a T connector wiring harness on hitchsource.com, that looks pretty easy, but I don't know of anyone that has used one.

The harness is a model 55027 made by Curt Manufacturing and their price is $46.94. The installation appears to be simple enough, and there is no wiring cutting required.

Has anyone used this product? Do you have any opinion about it.

We're getting ready for a trip to Canada to see friends, and I would like to have the lights working rather then to use a set of magnetic lights.

Any help would be appreciated.

isn't that harness used to provide a connection for a trailer?

When I click on my link it says Dinghy Towing Harnesses.

Your link is for a dingy harness, but the Curt 55027 is for trailers.

Good catch. If OP is indeed looking for toad lights. The one I linked is what he needs.
I wonder if the trailer and dinghy harnesses can be stacked?

  • anconn,

I use a Brake Buddy. I have used it with 3 Motorhomes and two different Dingys.
We have towed a Chevy Tracker, our 2004 Jeep (mistakenly called it a 2003 in original post)I hope to continue to use it with our new Dingy.

I like the fact that it can be transferred from one vehicle to another with very little effort. The only thing that I changed over when switching from one vehicle to another is the brake away controller an wire to the unit.

We have towed to the west coast on three separate occasions and have had no problems. I have had this same Brake Buddy since 1997 and I have been happy with it. Figure I’m way ahead of the game and if I have to replace my braking system, I would go with another Brake Buddy.

Only my opinion, hope it helps.
  • FeeLine: I also tow a Jeep Liberty(2005) and wondered what braking system you use.

  • i'd highly recommend using a harness with it's own lights, that is completely separate from the jeep's wiring harness.
I think blue ox has them for well under a hundred.

There is plenty of room in the liberty's tail lights for an additional bulb. In our 2010, there is a fourth socket hole, unused and not even punched out.
