table support

I tried to post a picture but no luck so I'll try to explain. The hinges on my table broke and we ordered new ones but the new ones don't match the old ones, They are the exact opposite. I think someone put the wall plates on the wall upside down and bent the hinges to fit. My old RV you had to tilt the table up to make it come away from the brackets and this one you have to tilt it down. So my question is can someone tell me if the wall brackets on your RV have the opening at the top or the bottom for the hinge to set in? The RV I have now the hinge goes in from the top and I think it should go up from the bottom. If this isn't making any sense don't worry I can go to an RV dealership and look at one of the tables in their RV's just wanted to try and save myself a trip.

  • Thank you Toedtoes, we have the support bar so you answered my question and we will flip the wall brackets. My son is doing the work but he didn't think about the support bar and legs holding up the table. You saved me from having to drive to camping world to take back the hinge, order another and it would be the same way. :)
  • The hinges on my table (the part that 2Oldman shows) point up. The brackets on the wall (the red arrowed in your image) have the opening facing down.

Does your table have the support bar? As in your diagram, the support bar is attached to the wall and the table. When you raise the table, the support bar (and table leg) holds the table up with the hinges (2Oldman's image) in the brackets (the red arrowed in your diagram). Without the support bar, the table hinges would simply fall out of the brackets and the table would collapse to the floor.

I'm wondering if with yours, the support bar was removed. In that case, the hinges wouldn't work as normally installed. Instead, the hinges would have to face down and the bracket would be attached to the wall with the hinge opening at the top. Then the hinge would drop into the bracket and the bracket would support the table without needing a support bar. If that's the case, you should be able to find a simple L shelf hinge facing the opposite direction. That little curve in the hinge is for the support bar, so if you don't have one, you don't need the curve.

If you do have a support bar, then you should be able to simply flip the wall brackets and the hinge will now fit properly.
  • See how this table tilts up well on mine you have to tilt down. Or at least I hope the picture shows up. See the 2 red arrows I'm wondering how those should be mounted on the wall?
  • Thanks 2oldman that's what I tried to post. This is what my new hinges look like and I haven't seen any that were the opposite. When you mount it to the table the part with the writing points up. I know it's still confusing but maybe somebody will understand what I'm trying to say:)
