Tailgator Instal Question

We have a 2011 29' B+. I purchased a Tailgator today and was told I had to connect a coax from the Tailgator DIRECTLY to the receiver. I was thinking I could just plug the coax into the internet connection on the outside of the coach. Installing as CW stated, I would have to run it through a cracked window, and connect it to the receiver. that would mean the coax would be "dangling" around the coach and then it would get in the way of being able to close the cabinet door.

What do the rest of you do?

  • We have a 2006 Four Winds Chateau and the external cable connection didn't work for us either - no matter how I tried swapping connections around. We go the "through the door" route with ours when we use it inside. Most of our use is for tailgating, though, and outside isn't an issue.
  • Our coach came from the factory with a satellite installed (in 2000), none of the stuff worked, we removed every thing except the co-ax installed at the factory in the roof and walls of the coach.

None of those cables work with the tailgater.

WE plan to use the compartment over the driver seat to hold the sat-reciever and rewire from the generator compartment thru the holes provided, and place the coax connector in the generator compartment
  • I only had a single coax input to my 5er. But it did come into a dual coax conn wall plate in a cabinet below the TV where I installed the receiver. That plate had a short coax jumper across the two connectors. I had to disconnect the jumper and connect a coax from the plate to the receiver to get signal from the Tailgater. Put the jumper back if I wanted park cable.
Got tired of that so I added a second external coax dedicated to the sat.
  • I have to go the window route with mine. My local dealer had a flat piece that connects to the outside coax and the coax from the TV. Using the flat piece I am able to close the window completely. Works good for me.
  • Further information---I do have a toggle switch that switches between ant, off, cable. when I remove the face plate, there is a lot of electrical stuff going on in back of it that I am not familiar with. CW did mention I could disconnect the cable coax from the face plate and connect that to the receiver. That would be a lot of work each time I wanted to use the tailgator and I would be afraid of messing up some other electrical connections.
  • If you don't have 2 outside cable connections you will have to go the window route. The single outside coax connector usually goes thru the antenna amp and the will kill the Sat signal even if it's in the off position for cable reception.

The only solution would be to remove the cable coax from the back of the ant amp, install an A-B switch with one side going to your tailgater and the other going back to the ant amp. You could then switch depending on which one you are using.
  • If the coax connection at the exterior of your RV goes directly to your sat box and is rg6 you will be ok. One problem is sometimes that coax isn't a direct connection. That is why they say direct. That coax cannot run through splitters etc. In my MH it is just a matter of re-routing coax in the front at the TV. If you don't have knowlrdge og hooking up the system you may just have dish or direct come out and connect it up.
