As a retired trucker I would like to respond. I agree with the law to move over or slow down when emergency vehicles or breakdowns are on the side. However everyone complaining about the trucks moving over into the left lane at any gap should know the left lane is supposed to be only for passing. Truckers get disgusted when looking into your mirror, you see the left lane full of traffic as far as you can see. There is no way to move over even if you wanted too, and for a truck to slow down is OK but a truck is 8'6" wide and even slowing down makes the truck too close to the emergency on the side.
Common courtesy would allow the truck to move over to give clearance for the emergency vehicles but everyone is in such a hurry they might have to slow down down by letting in a slow truck. Oh nooo...
The other problem is that all us old guys who came up in the years when truckers were knights of the road are retiring. The kids who come into the industry now are part of the 'me' generation and are just as selfish as the rest of the driving public.
