The times, they are a changing.

A couple years ago I started a thread in this forum to discuss my dilemma.
I stated I am resident of Canada that travels to the USA for holidays many times a year.
I am also a marijuana user. I talked about my wish of being able to purchase pot to consume while on holidays but not wanting to get involved with purchasing illegally from a drug dealer ( I can purchase legally in B.C. as I have a medical marijuana card for stress related issues) and also not willing to transport drugs across the border which is also illegal. I had hoped that it would be legalized so I could buy small quantities to enjoy while I am on holiday. The response on this forum was very negative.
I was told to stay in my own country and I was even threatened with arrest from members who I can only assume were law enforcement officers. The thread was closed quite quickly. I was only voicing my opinion which everyone is entitled to.
Fast forward to today and I am now able to purchase legally in Washington and Oregon.
I have used marijuana all my adult life and I have used alcohol as well. I do not have a substance abuse problem of any type. I'm 56 yrs. old. own my own business that is successful and have a wonderful family and life. You may agree with my position or not. That is your choice. But I'm happy that the stigma against marijuana is finally going away.
Thanks for reading

Seems to me a lot of people are very concerned about rights being restricted when those rights are theirs. When they're somebody else's, not so much.

Which rights do you see being restricted ?

There not changing that fast. I live in Russell county Ky. Where you still cant buy beer. So my tax dollars go to the next county over. Yes I have smoked the devils weed, on and off since high school But give me a break, it' not like I've got a bunch of bodies stacked up next to the Aqua- hot in the basement...

10 minutes between 'double' post...devil weed got you :B
  • Wait till the other two states catch up to Colorado where Pot shops are like 7-11, one on every corner. Who am I kidding, 7-11 wishes they had that many stores. lol

Luckily we are not a smoldering pit yet. The state is hauling it in with hundreds of millions in weed tax alone. Property values are way up and they can't build the warehouses fast enough. Quite the boon for a cousin of a weed that threatened a number of industries back in the day.

It may stink but anymore it's the smell of money.
  • As a retired cop I am going to say something that may surprise some people hear a former cop say this.

I always enforced the law when I was a cop even if I did not agree with the law. I personally believe that people have the right the take whatever they wanted as long as it did not harm anyone else. We outlawed booze and it was a big failure. If it was legal it would remove the profit and incentive to sell and smuggle dope. Let the druggies take anything they want, however here comes the BIG BUT. If they ever choose to leave their house and endanger anyone else while driving under the influence the should and will be executed if caught even if they do not get into an accident. If you want to put junk into your body that is your business, if you get in a vehicle and endanger my life and other peoples lives it becomes the business of the law. One of the many reasons I like traveling in an RV is the fact that I take prescription medication for pain. If I am in a lot of pain I take pain medication but I never drive after taking a pill. I have had times where I was in so much pain I could not wait to drive to a camp ground so I stopped off at a rest stop before I took my legally prescribed pill. I have never smoked the stuff in my entire life and I have been curious if it could relieve my pain but I will never take the risk of doing it because regardless of state law it is against federal law

By the way when my father was in the hospital he shared the room with someone that was smoking the stuff. I assume the hospital provided the stuff so that he could keep his food down without throwing up. I have heard it is useful for cancer patients, but From the way I have read your post it seems like you are looking for an excuse to get high.

Once again I really don't think it is anyones business what you do to yourself, but the second you get behind the wheel under the influence you deserve to be executed be cause you are putting other peoples lives in danger.

At this point it really does not matter because regardless of state law I doubt the feds will allow it in the near future
  • In Washington State when you buy weed they put it in a paper bag and staple it! As long as that staple is in place no police can open that bag without a search warrant. Not sure that your aware of it or not? I don't smoke weed but if your truly using it for medical purposes than good for you. I have no beef with you but, I'm upset with the Country you live in and there double standards! If someone in the USA has a DUI that there not allowed in Canada. Anyone in Canada with a DUI is welcomed in the U.S. also guns not allowed in Canada but you can bring your guns into the U.S. I travel with a Yellow Naped Amazon Parrot I'm not allowed to bring my bird with health certificates into your Country you can bring your bird into the U.S. with papers and lastly flying Canadian Flags on your motorhome, golf carts etc. is a insult to us American Vets the U.S. is scared ground to us! We know where your from due to the way you talk! Good Luck to you in your travels and I'm hoping I don't get a letter from Johnny about my post!

Thanks Dennis. We'll go out just as soon as I finish my copy of High Times. But I think I'll just go ahead and unfollow this thread.
