Been camping all my life (and I'm 61) and ever had anything stolen. We do take some precautions to eliminate "temptation", like putting things up when leaving for a while, or at night, and padlocking our bicycle every night. (a little prevention goes a long way. But a determined thief will get it anyway).
We did have a kids toy taken once. It was a plastic Toy Motor Home we used as a yard ornament. It came up missing. We figured a kids wanted it more than we did. It only cost a couple dollars, so we weren't upset. But that was the only items we've ever had come up missing. (Well I did loose a surge protector about 3 years ago. To this day, I still don't know what happened to it. I still don't know if that was "theft" or my own negligence. Somewhere between home and the campground it came up missing.)
But .... NEVER trust anyone or anything. Always do your best to protect your property ... and you'll do fine. BUT also ... don't let "paranoia" paralyze you either! Enjoy your travels and always be aware of your surroundings and you'll have good experiences.
