- Plumber101010ExplorerWell I guess is just like my travel trailer, I only run one unless I need the AC so I guess the same would apply to the class A. I just like the convenience of having everything built in and not having to go outside and hook anything up so I never thought in those terms. It was a convenience issue for me not a fuel issue but I guess I won’t really know just how much fuel it burns until I actually purchase one and I could change my mind rapidly :)
- imgoin4itExplorerTalked to a guy who was dry camping in Alaska who was running a small Honda generator most of the day. Ask him why he was doing that when he had the on board generator. He said that was all the power he needed most of the time. It was enough to charge the batteries, make coffee, watch s little tv etc and it was far cheaper to operate than running his on board diesel generator.
- Plumber101010ExplorerThought was 50 amp and my gens won’t produce that? Should do more research :)
- wildtoadExplorer III would not waste the space to carry two gens plus the gas when I already have a gen that is sized to support the motorhome.
- Y-GuyModeratorI love my built in Onan, that said there are times I could use a small light weight generator when dry camping just to keep the 12v topped off. I wouldn't race to sell it until you get a few trips under your belt. MrWizard hits the two major points for each of them already.
- LwiddisExplorer IIClass As usually have plenty of roof room for solar panels. As Ducktape said sell the Hondas, install a good solar system and use the onboard generator when needed.
- azrvingExplorerI have never owned a mh but I'm always surprised at how loud some on boards are. It's common to see a Honda 2000 in use and why run a 5 6 or 7000 to charge a battery. Depending on your style solar is very nice .
- DuctapeExplorerSell the Hondas and spend the money on solar panels.
- Beverley_KenExplorerKeep them for all the reasons previously mentioned, plus light usage around the house for power failures.
Ken - gboppExplorerI would keep the Honda's, at least until you used the Onan a few times to make sure it's working properly.
It doesn't matter if the Class A is new or used.
Personally, I would hang onto the Honda's. Just in case.
