An old motorhome is a light delivery truck chock full of appliances, plumbing and air conditioning and furnace etc. equipment. It may also have a generator,an awning, and an amplified TV antenna. All of this stuff will be either need repair or replacement or be about to need it. Older rigs often have damage mold and dry rot from water leaking into the overhead area. Don't buy any rig with water stains in the ceiling, mold smell, or other signs of water damage. Tires that are older than 6 years old will need to be replaced. Motorhome tires become unsafe to drive just sitting parked holding up all of the weight. New looking old tires can come apart underway and steel belts can severly damage holding tanks, wiring and propane lines. Have the entire brake system inspected and repaired as needed including front flex lines and have brake fluid flushed and replaced. Have cooling system inspected and all hoses and belts replaced as needed. Have transmission serviced. If you have the skills and tools to repair or replace things as needed, owning and operating an old rig including space rental, DMV registration, smog testing, etc., may be worthwhile. If you do not have an adequate income, you may be better off renting a room with bath and kitchen priveleges. Long term living in a small motorhome and keeping it warm, cooled, street legal and movable is not necessarily cheap or easy.
