Thinking of selling DP/Life can change quick

Thanks u Mr. Mark and yes she appiled for SSI in April and received a letter last week wanting more info. and she has not been denied yet so I am hopping these is a good sign. her Dr. is really working with use on these.

Cajun... I had a similiar ailment, Cervical Transverse Myelitis. GB starts at the bottom of the spine and moves upward, CTM starts at the top of the spine and moves downward. The flu shot attacked my spinal cord. Mine started when I couldn't lift my arms one morning after having some tingling for the previous week. I went to the hospital where I went totally paralyzed from the neck down for two weeks then a slow recovery. It hit my spine just below the part that effects breathing/heart beat, etc. It will be 4 yrs. this Oct. and I'm at 98% and will probably not go further. I'll take 98%!

The younger that you are when this happens is the better for a full recovery (I was 51 when it happened to me in 2009).

If you are totally basing your decision on your wife's recovery, don't rush the sale, she will get better (as her doctor said) and you will be on the road again. Vitamin B helps the nerves grow back.
I'm sure your wife is taking physical therapy which will help. I had it for 8 weeks.

I can not advise on selling the DP or not but there is one thing you need to know. "She can't return to work" means she may qualify for Social Security Disability, which is generally more than she would get at age 62...

Now you need to file and do it quickly so you can be denied (Standard procedure I might add) and start the appeals process to get approved.. Do it quickly. For more info.. www.ssa.gov is, I think, the url.

One last bit of info my friend found out is if a person is stricken with GB they are guaranteed SSI without having to jump thru any hoops to get it. That should help you financially and maybe match what she lost in retirement benefits. Good Luck.:C

Thanks for all the encorgement. Yes Dr. is very postive she will have a full recovery. Just gone to take time. She can not return back to her job because of the law enfocement requirments in Federal job. But she is ok with that she is spending more time with grand kids. Retiring at 45 not bad and me at 50 in 2 more yrs. I will find a side job after retirement because we really enjoy campiing and these was our dream. i have it least on Rv trader just to see if I get any hits and if something bits I can always down size with smaller note. My dear friend came down with this also. As devastating as the symptoms look on onset. My friend was only 40 years old and couldn't walk and became wheel chair bound and then it too hit the lungs and was in hospital on ventilator. Not to mention it took the darn hospital weeks to figure out what it was.:R

Talk to your doctors. This IS curable and your wife WILL return to full healthy function. After the hospital stint and the right meds administered my friend fully recovered as most do. Within a year she was back in the saddle driving their Class A to sporting events.

So your DW will be able to return to work to grab that full retirement benefits. PLEASE find a doctor that will fully explain Guillen barre to you. Would hate to see you make all these decisions on your RV etc without the full story of your DW's condition.

My friends DH was in the same situation as you and HAD to dig and dig to find a doctor that understands and was willing to take the time to explain this condition to all to them. It is NOT an end all be all disease, thank God.

If you have an interest in selling there will always be another motor home for sale if you want to buy back someday. Price it, list it, if it sells OK, if not and you become more interested in selling, drop the price. If you are making payments, consider dropping the price at least the amount of what those payments would cost you between now and spring. I am not suggesting anything, just throwing out some thoughts.

What does your wife say? Might want to consider her well being mentally and not remove any hope for a full recovery, or at least enough recovery to start camping again.

First, my prayers for your wife's full recovery. I am a respiratory therapist and I know from experience that folks can fully recover from GB syndrome, even if they have been on a ventilator for long periods. So, keep the faith and pray for her full recovery.

If you both love the RV lifestyle, hang on to that nice Revolution a bit longer and you may be soon back on the road enjoying it. Try not to make a decision when you are stressed....give it some time if you can.

Very sorry to hear the bad news about your wife. I would take just a little more time to make the call on weather to sell or not.

Good grief. You've more to worry about than a dozen of us. From personal experience we looked at RV s all year round I believe the best time for RV sales for weekenders is in the spring. For those of us full-timing it matters not. As to whether to sell or not has everything to do with your and your wife's mobility than anything else. All the best and all our prayers.
