Thor new coach Axis

The Axis is built on an E350 chassis, which is a Ford van chassis that are used in Class 'C' coaches. My personal preference would be the E450 chassis, which is not available.

As far as quality is concerned, I've owned a Thor\Four Winds product since 2007 and I personally don't have any major complaints about quality. The price point is under $70k MSRP, so I wouldn't expect high-end finishes that you would find in a DP.


Just like certain body parts, everyone will have an opinion. So, just keep an open mind with the variety of responses you will get. It's your money, good luck with your decision.

Just my two cents, but it's going to be hard to get a reliable picture of a brand's quality based on forum postings (this topic or otherwise). As one of my professors used to say, any person's "experience" is a statistical argument based on a sample size of one. Without a sufficiently large, random sample (which can't happen where people self-select), an impression of the brand as a whole will remain elusive.

However, it may not matter. If it's true that all brands within a given price band will have roughly the same overall quality, then the issue becomes finding a unit with the layout and features you like, and then doing a pre-delivery inspection up the wazoo, making sure that there are no major problems with the particular coach you're buying. Then, take the inevitable petty annoyances with a easy-going disposition and you'll be fine. You'll have a great time, you won't let the small stuff ruin the pleasure of your new coach, and you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you got the motorhome that's exactly right for you.

Having said all that, we have a Thor ACE 30.1 and it's fine. Fit and finish are all good, no major system problems (we're dealing with a battery control center recall now, but it's not a big deal) (and not peculiar to Thor), it drives well, livability is excellent, and the layout is perfect for us.

Have fun and keep us posted. Both the Axis and the Vegas look very appealing!

I think if I was going to buy a Thor product I would look very closely at the Daybreak and compare it to the Axis, Vegas and Ace. What I like about the Daybreak is that it has full basement storage, 100 gals vs 42-50 of fresh water, 80 gals vs 50 of gas, 362 hp vs 305 hp for the Vegas and Axis, a longer wheel base, and probably more CCC although I could not easily find it on there web site.

Apples an Oranges. Difficult to compare a $100k + MH to a 24' A on a C chassis which is likley $40k less. Very different markets. My only conern would be the ride. The chassis does not lend itself to being smooth. The F53 is better but I get the point and the target market. I would be interested in seeing MSRP.

In a basic google search, I noticed MSRP just under $70k. It's too bad the Axis is on a E350 chassis, I think they (Thor) should've used the E450 chassis as I stated in post #2 of this thread.

Having been involved in manufacturing, when you are attempting to reach a price point evey dime counts. I expect that Thor designers would have liked to have used the 450 chassis as well, but then it would not have met the targeted price point.

Just curious, how is a class A built on a van chassis? Does Thor buy with the cab and remove it? Can the E-350 be bought without the cab? Also, wonder what the front drivers area looks like and if seats swivel like in a typical class A? Is this first class A built on a van chassis?
