I took out the sink, removed the leftover silicone and mounted t from the top. I sealed under the flange with clear silicone. I had to add 1” to the drain pipe but that was easy. Looks so much better and we won’t have the particle board swelling issue. We don’t have the drop-in cover but we have a large wood cutting board that can cover the whole area. The better fix would have been to replace the counter top with a solid material but we may not keep this rig all that long
