Tire Question

I have Michelin tires installed new in April 2013. Noticed this weekend that the left front tire is starting to show sun/weather cracks. Not sure why, as the MH doesn't sit parked for more than a couple of months at a time(none of this time is summer), and then it is kept in a open covered storage facility. The tire in question is facing east when stored. So, the question is What to Do? Would it make sense to move the tire to an inside position on the rear or should I leave it where it is and begin treating it with UHV protection and become more diligent in keeping it covered?

  • It is called a zipper crack. Not weather checking. Michelin tires are notorious for this issue. Get a call in to Michelin head office and see what you can negotiate for a settlement . Take that money and put toward a set of new tires from another manufacturer. This is exactly what we did.
  • Its been three years and being under an open covered facility does not protect from uv rays. UV rays bounce and UV radiation still happens on a cloudy day. You need covers for your tires, ones that allow air flow.

Dry Rot and Sun Damage to tires
  • Severe cracking in the sidewall should be covered by tire warranty.

BUT being a RV they may not cover them.

Contact the dealer you purchased them from

    OR

    Contact Michelin
  • Seems that's been a common problem with Michelin in recent years. I would check with the installer or Michelin to see about warranty replacement. No reason your safety should be compromised if it's a defect.
