Tire Replacement

We have a 2010 Winnebago 35' do, approx 22,000 miles; outside tires have some cracking so think we need to replace.
The original tires are Michelin 255/80R 22.5 XRV tubeless radial.
We thought we would try to replace with the same tires, but have never purchased for a rv, just passenger vehicles..is that the way to do it!

  • I have been very happy with Hankook and Toyo. Both seem to have a good reputation and I don't recall seeing any negative comments about either tire.

It seems that most negative comments revolve around Michelin and Goodyear so you might take that into consideration.
  • Genuine Chinese without paying for a name and Korean Hankooks to pay a little more for a name and an excellent reputation. They all have a DOT number on them, if that means anything at all.

Many replace with something other than Michelin and go with a 275/75/22.5 which is the same diameter and a little wider. FMCA has a discount program on Michelin and I use this seller on Ebay to compare prices.
I was surprised to see buses in Spain this fall with Triangle tires... made in China on them.
  • Check out Hankook tires. Get good reviews and decent prices.
  • First some cracking on the side walls of Michelin tires is normal. What is the production date of your tires? Being your unit is a 2010 I'd guess the production year is 2009 or later, making the tires about 5-6 years old. First go to the Michelins commercial/RV tire site and look at what Michelin considers acceptable for side wall cracking and then go from the as to the need to replace the tire now.
  • Much the same, would check with FMCA if your a member and get the discount pricing for the Michelin tires, they will direct you to a truck tire shop, Many foks have gone that route including myself, still somewhat expensive but a lot less than the regular pricing.
