- pappyralphExplorerWhat if,( my motorhome )tires have always been stored inside building, with pads between cement & rubber, only outside when on trip. Has got to be longer then about 7 years.
- RichertExplorerI would replace them now!
- NAUTIQUEExplorerBought my Sumitomos in March 2007.
Have put less than 10,000 miles on them. Still look perfect. Never even looses any air. Not Covered (in New England) and at least get exercised every month for about 1/2hr, 35 mile ride of mixed highway & backroad.
Really torn on if I can stretch at least another season out of them.
Sure is a tough decision when the $'s are tight! - ct78barnesExplorerIt seems that there are a lot of seven year old coaches on the market seems like a lot of people get a new coach and trade in there seven year old coach. I am sure getting the new tires would be a lot less cost.
- mookie6ExplorerThanks for the input. Shopping mon.
- crassterExplorer IIFor RV I'm 7 years possibly streched to 8.

No one knows when tires need replacement
Tires in AZ heat will not last as long as tires in Seattle everything else being equal.
Age is one factor. There are other factors. Heat is one major factor. Age is simple and people like clear cut and simple.

That's why Goodyear & Michelin have in their guides to have tires inspected every year one they are 5 years old. - Crazy_RayExplorerLast year

Many years ago I had a motorhome with excellent looking rubber on the tires, about 8 years old, always covered when not in use. I blew a rear tire in nowhere Colorado. Limped into a town miles away on one dually. It did minor body damage. On the way home later the other dually blew. Probably because of the stress from the 30 mile drive unsupported. This time it took out some wire, the wheel well, and some outside fiberglass. I now change all my tires every 6 to 7 years no matter what. Call it insurance. Expensive insurance, the last set ran $550 each, but still just the cost of safe travel.
JMHO
expensive is right. but we now set aside $50 per month into a 'tire replacement fund'. when the time comes to buy new tires we'll have the cash.
