Toad or No Toad

Tuesday I put a base plate on the 16 Forester. I will be towing it with a 26.5 Lazy Daze Mid Bath I purchased in 2011. For me it is a "nice to have" instead of a "got to have".

Yes, I was talking about a Daihatsu ROCKY, which is a 3-door small SUV with 4WD, 5-spd manual trans, 1600cc Inline 4 cyl engine. Similar to a Suzuki Samurai, but IMHO, better. Last ones imported to the USA was 1992.

I went a year with my first Class C without a toad. I do a lot of sporting events where you are parked for several days. I quickly found out that having a toad to run errands or go out to eat etc is really a nice bonus.

I just picked up a used Chevy Tracker 4x4. She followed me around for years.

Came in really handy when the MH broke down too. No need to start panicking just toss the keys to the tow truck driver and load everyone in the toad and find a motel close to the repair shop. Priceless if you have dogs. I have 4.

We bought a short "C", not because we didn't want to tow but because it was large enough for our needs.
The Wife and I both insist that we tow the Geo. Always nice to have a second set of wheels in our opinion. If we were worried about the lower MPG we wouldn't go RV'ing.

We do both depending on the trip. When we make the "Family Circle" (visiting the kids), we don't tow. We park and let me come get us. If we are near a good sized town we might rent a car or use public transportation, For long trips we usually tow but don't always unhitch at every campsite. lizzie

Use the class C. If we want to run around with ours, I don't put the awning out, and don't hook a water hose up. I just plug it into AC.
When we go, unplug it and leave. Everything is with you. This is the joy of a shorter rig. Less hassle equals more fun!

we have a 30 ft Jayco Melbourne, took it to Alaska on a 3 month trip. Did not tow. There were a few times having a car would have been nice but most of the time all the areas we were in were RV friendly. We got very good and unhooking and rehooking when we needed to use it for day trips and sightseeing.

On trips where we are in one place for over a week, we take our car, it does make things simpler. There is a small cost in mileage but worth it when staying in one place for a while.

I thought the reason for a short C was so you did not need a toad. Try it without first and then decide.

Gonzo42 is probably talking about the Daihatsu Rocky, a small SUV type vehicle made in the 90's.
