Took the plunge my first Class C and first RV forum...

I am a forum member for every other interest I have and I just purchased a 2000 Fleetwood Tioga Class C, so I figured I'd better pick an RV forum. :-) I've camped all my life, everything from backpacking and rough tent, 70's model Cox Poor Boy pop-up, Jayco fancy pop-up (now for sale), but decided we needed to move more to a camping style that suits easy weekend, overnight and cross country trips things not conducive to pop-up trailers.

I have few questions which I'm sure other users have experienced and can shed some light on quickly.

1) For some reason, Ford decided that even though the year was 2000
that a cassette player was a good idea for audio! In a 2000 model
E450 chassis what is a good CD/DVD, bluetooth handsfree, rear view
camera input, easy install and inexpensive reciever? Camera
mounting/wiring?

2) I have a CB and am embarking on Ham communications cert. Input from
like minded folks for antenna mounting? Wiring? Radio mounting in
the van chassis cab?

3) The PO left the refer running on all the time as they were frequent
campers. Is this bad?

We just bought this RV Wednesday and plan to head to a nearby campgroung this weekend. Part of my trial by fire OJT learning... heh

Thanks,
Tym
  • Congratulations on your C. Have fun camping, bring some tools with you as when playing with the fire it helps to have something to help put it out.
A lot CGs have cable. or there's satellite options tom

Somewhere up in your cabinetry you'll likely find a TV amplifier button. If you press that button, then use the remote on your TV to find your menu, and select 'rescan channels', you'll likely discover a lot of digital and analog channels available to you - at no cost.

In my local area, I can pick up 28 channels. All the major networks, indpendent news channels, weather channel, several religious channels, and a few spanish language channels.

  • Welcome! I was a newbie to RV travel and the forums here have been really helpful in bringing me up to speed. I'll be looking for the responses to your question about the radio ... my 1999 Ford is similarly challenged.

  • In reference to your refrigerator question, I think you will find most of us leave our refrigerator on all the time except when it is time to winterize. Personally, I think it is just too much trouble to load and unload the fridge on each trip, especially if you use it on a regular basis. They are designed to be used, so long as you keep the RV reasonably level you should have no problems. Happy camping and welcome to the forum. I have really learned a lot from these good people on here.
  • Welcome to the forum and congrats on your C.

I'm guessing you're picking up broadcast TV signals.

Some leave their reefers running all the time. It doesn't hurt anything and may help it last longer than a unit that is run infrequently.

Also, check the age of your tires. RV tires normally age out before they wear out.

    Enjoy your travels.
  • Oooops! forgot a question... I turned on the TV and it worked. I was able to get two channels.... So is there free digital TV?
