A long time ago in a land far away I had new tires put on. Not knowing anything I watched the highly trained techs put the lug nuts on with a 1 inch impact wrench. Some time later I had a real picnic getting those nuts off. I also replaced the studs, all 20 of them, as they had to be damaged.
Torque is stretching the stud, over torquing can stretch the stud to the point of failure. You would think by now there were enough lawsuits that anyone who deals in tires would do it right.
If I cannot stand and watch the tech use a torque wrench, I redo them.
