Towing a 2012 Equinox

I have been towing ours for two years and have had to replace the tumblers as the key would get locked in and not shut off. We go by GM instructions and had the tow switch installed so we do not have to pull the fuse every time. But after just getting back from a 2,500 mile round trip the wife could not get the key to come out. I could get it out if I played with it a few times. They covered it under warranty . I do not think towing it had any thing to do with the switch going bad but if you have a Eqinox and had this problem please share your experience
  • '06 Vue decided to not release key while back east sightseeing. Got it out after a struggle, new key cut and so far still working fine. I must admit, key was quite worn from use. Good luck all!

We where having the key issue with our 2012 and this is the correct solution. Fuse has to be in.

  • Thanks it nice to know that I am not the only one . Seems GM has been having a lot of problems with these switches. I knew it had nothing to do with me towing it behind my coach.
  • Had the same problem, Key would not come out, needed a lot of trying.
ACE cut me a new key, works fine now, seems to be a GM problem???
    It's an 05 Saturn Vue.
    Siggy
  • I received a letter from GM about my Vue and the key not coming out..they said go to dealer for free replacement if I needed to..what was happening was the key was coming out and not turning the cylinder smoothly..once I had a new key cut, the problem went away and am not letting anyone touch something that works just fine. I was told as the key wears the tumblers don't like it.
