towing capacity of 05 Gulf Stream B T CRUISER 5211?

Does anyone know the towing capacity of a 2005 Gulf Stream B TOURING CRUISER 5211 with the chevy V8 option? According to the archive brochures on their website the chevy V8 option increases the GVWR to 12,300 from the standard V10 which has a GVWR of 10,700 lbs. The current owner thinks the towing capacity is 5k, but I saw a youtube video walk through by an RV dealer who said it was 3,500 lb but that was w/ the Ford V-10. I posted in the Class B forum and I even called Gulf Stream. Noboday answered on the B forum and GS hasn't called me back or replied to my e-mail yet. Thanks.
  • We have a Coachmen 28QB on the Chevy 4500 chassis with the 6.0. We tow a Wrangler four down or a VW on a Demco Ss. The Jeep is around 4400# and the VW/dolly weigh in around 3900#.

The unit handles both well. More power would be good but, the 6.0 gets the job done. Long grades are the slowest. Out West, it isn’t unusual to get down to 55 on some of the longer grades. The short steeper grades usually mean greasing down and letting the engine run up to around 3600rpm’s.
At 3500#’s, I suspect your experience will be considerably different.

    Hope this helps.

  • I owned a 2009 Bt on a F450 chassis w/V10. It towed my scion and a Honda Fit just fine. There were many owners of some older Bt's that towed and they all were very happy with their BT's

There are still some people in the BT club that still own their BT's

  • I have a 2006 Tioga built on a 2005 3500 Chevy Chassis

    The spec sheet shows
    GVWR 14050 lbs

    GCWR 17550 lbs

    Hitch Rating 3500 lbs

I don't tow so I can't help you out on that.

    Hope that helps some.
  • I didn't have a BT Cruiser, but I used to own a Gulfstream motorhome on a 14,050 GVWR Ford Chassis. It's towing capacity was 3,500 pounds per Gulfstream, which was limited by the hitch. The actual chassis towing capacity was higher, since the GCWR (Gross Combined Weight Rating) of the chassis was 20,000. I never towed more than 3,500 pounds with the motorhome so I didn't worry about it. IIRC the GCWR of the Chevy chassis with the 6.0 and 4.10 rear axle in that year was 16,000 (at least it was on my 2005 Silverado). This would limit you to towing just over 3500 pounds.
  • GS called me back - awesome customer service. She is built on a 3500 1 Ton GM Chasis with a 6.0 L V8. The GM specs show 10-14 K GVWR whereas GS advertised 12,300 for with the GM option. According to the GS rep, the GS limited the towing capacity to 3,500 lbs. So the question remains on how this coach will do towing. Who tows with their BT Cruiser and how does she do?
