We have a 31 foot Class C. We tow a Jeep Wrangler. We only get 6 mpg. We're feeling we do not have enough power. Also, when we unhook, we're having difficulty getting the jeep back into gear. Is anyone else having those problems? Any suggestions.

A couple thoughts. The Ford V10 is a revving motor. In the rev department its more like a Honda than it is a typical burbling Ford V8. Let the engine spin up - it was designed to run that way. Also, w/ the gearing of the rear axle its made more for getting going from a stop than it is pulling you into your seat when you're already moving. The Ford E450 is rated to 22000 pounds GCVWR - it will handle what you're pulling. You might want to run it w/ the Tow/Haul mode on and see how it works for you. Many would already consider the chassis 'hauling' once it has a house dropped on it. Add towing - you're just adding more of everything.

I tow a Ford Flex at 4200#'s. MPG is around 8.Tow Haul hold the trans lower gearing longer than with it off. I do not use it pulling the flex.Only when going down hills and mountains.

Fuel consumption increases dramatically over 65mph.I used to get 7.5mpg with the V10 in a 30' Class "A" driving 62-65mph towing nothing.

My 5 year average towing a Jeep Cherokee weighing 4,000 pounds is 8.5 mpg with an '03 V-10 Winnie. I rarely drive faster than 60 and I'm happy to go up mountain passes at 35 mph. If you can stand the racket, you can go up the passes faster than me but you'll get even lower mpg. The majority of my driving has been in the West where we have the real mountains. If you're really getting 6 mpg, someone probably has a lead foot. The transfer case in my previous '89 Cherokee was very reluctant to be shifted into and out of neutral but my "new" '98 Cherokee shifts in and out happily. Try shifting the transfer case when the tranny is in neutral and without the brakes on. If that doesn't work, try the same with the engine idling.

We tow a 2013 Hyundai about 2800 lbs and get around 8-9 have gotten better and worse (mountains). The 5 star takes command of the trans and give some better control to the throttle. Also I think the jeep is around 4000lbs is it not? So a heavy tow and and a heavy bus will make the mpg's lower. You can try slower but I doubt that will help much as from what I have read even those that drive 60 or less still only get about 1/2mpg better than what I see at 65-70.
