TPMS on toad

Take them off the toad, for sure,when not travaling. I left mine on and went through a car wash. Lucky that only valve stem broke off and one tire was flat when I came out of the wash. I would not leave those exposed 24/7. Only takes 5 minutes to put them back on. Just mark them LF,RF,LR,RR.

Good info, and good question. I just ordered fresh batteries for my TST 507 set (I left the sensors on this winter in storage).

Sarah, thanks for showing up, I have been very satisfied with my purchase and have recommended this unit to friends. I had a friend facebook me this week that his 507 system detected a serious problem on his trailer and averted near disaster!

Similar to many above, I do the following:

1-Do most of you leave the sending units on the coach tires 24/7, even in storage?
Sending units come off the MOHO for winter storage only.

2- Will the battery life be effected if the sending units are on the vehicle tires?
Yes, but as pointed out above they are easy to change and inexpensive.

3-How many also take the sending units off the tires of the toad?
They are only on the car when it is being towed. I did remove the security caps to reduce the size/weight and make the installation/removal easier.

Lastly, as Sarah pointed out, TST will provide new O-rings if needed at little to no cost. Also, thanks Sarah for posting, that shows (to me) a genuine interest in customer satisfaction.

I have the TST 507 system, and leave all sensors on the motorhome and toad all the time. I have removed the security covers so that changing the batteries is easy. When I get the first low battery signal, I change all 10 batteries. I get 8 to 12 months between battery changes, and the batteries cost about 25 cents each.

I use the Tianqiu 1632 battery, available from ebay for $4.95 for a package of 20.

We also have the 507 monitoring system. We remove the sensors when the coach is in storage. As mentioned the batteries will last longer since the sensors only transmit when they are activated by installing them.

The batteries are cheap. However I don't like to open the sensors unless it's necessary. The screws that hold them together are tiny and self tapping. They can easily be stripped by continually loosening and tightening, or by over tightening. In addition there's a tiny o ring sealing the cap to the body. It's easy to break when disassembling the sensor. You should have gotten a few extra with your system just incase one or more breaks when changing the batteries.

I generally take along several spare batteries and change them "as necessary". When a battery starts to fail you get a low battery alarm that can be silenced. If it happens when we're traveling I change it at the next convenient location. As a side note the batteries are supposed to last 1 year when the sensors are left on permanently. We average 2 to 3 year battery life by removing the sensors when the motorhome is in storage.

Your TST sensors will stop transmitting when removed from the valve stem, conserving battery life. That said, the cost to replace the batteries is such a minor expense that I'd recommend changing them annually anyway to ensure reliable performance.

2. Maybe and maybe not, depending on the design of the sender. Some (at least some used on cars) are only active when the tires are rotating. Others (again, at least some others used on cars) are active whether they're mounted or not. This is partly because being attached to a tire with no air pressure and being detached from the tire are often indistinguishable to the sender, and you definitely want to detect and warn of the former case.
