TPO roof. How delicate ?

Our previous MHs all had fiberglass roofs. The DP we are looking at has a TPO roof.
I know fiberglass is better but this MH pretty much has all we want except for the roof.

We use mostly public campgrounds( state parks , nfs , national parks, etc.) , lots of trees, and low hanging branches. Very few private campgrounds. We are careful but never worried about it with the fiberglass roof.

Comments please.

Thank you,
Sherry

  • TPO roofs are fine.

Ours is 10 years old and looks almost as good as new.
  • Sure, I like a fiberglass roof, but we've had motorhomes with rubber roofs for over 13 years and never had one problem with them. If the motorhome is what you like, I wouldn't let the TPO (which is actually better than rubber) roof stand in the way.

  • I think you'd be at least as likely to damage vent covers, antennas, AC shrouds, etc. that stick up over the roof than the TPO roof itself. Obviously one should exercise reasonable care and caution for the well-being both.

The occasional brush with twigs won't destroy a rubber roof unless it's already well past the point of needing replacement.
  • TPO or more commonly called "rubber" roofs are pretty durable. You can walk on them with some care. They last a long time with minimal care. Wash them a couple times a year, check and reseal joints yearly is about all that is necessary. They can be damaged by low hanging tree branches etc, so some caution when driving through access roads with low overhead clearence is necessary.
